Top 5 tips for a longer lasting candle

There’s nothing more inviting than the warm glow of a lit candle. Candles look amazing anywhere in your house and can add a lovely scent to any room in the home. But too often, the excitement of lighting them for the first time lasts only long enough until it burns out. It can be frustrating to watch your candle burn out so quickly, especially since you just bought it! You want to get the most out of what you paid for and make sure it lasts as long as possible.

Here are 5 tips to get the most out of your investment, you'll have that lovely ambience long into the evening.

  1. When you first burn your candle, let it burn all the way to the edge of the vessel.

Lavian's candles burn to the edge within the first 1-3 hours depending on the size of the vessel. Allow some time for the wood wick to melt the wax around it until it reaches the edge. By doing this you have "set the memory" and your coconut soy wax candle should perform well every burn after.

  2. After your first burn, don't let your candle burn for more than 4-6 hours at a time.

Every candle maker has their own instructions on how to burn their candles but here at Lavian Fragrances - this is our guideline. Our XL candles shouldn't be burned for longer than 4 hours at one given time and our XXL candles shouldn't be burned for longer that 6 hours at one given time.

    Why? you ask.
If you burn longer than the recommended burn time your wax melts faster than the candle was designed to do and therefore you will not get the full burn time from your candle. Limiting the length of burn is also safer and it eliminates the risk of the jar over heating and potentially shattering - especially when you are almost at the end of your jar!

  3. Trim your wick after every burn

If you don't trim your wick your wick will be to high and create a larger hotter flame. Therefore burning your wax a lot quicker than they were designed to do.
It is pretty simple to trim your wick, you don't even need wick trimmers! Simply grab a piece of tissue and pull off the black charcoal from your burnt wick after your wax has gone back to a solid state.

  4. The lid was put on your candle for a reason, don't chuck it out!

Your lid wasn't designed for aesthetics. When your candle isn't burning, it keeps out any dust and bugs. It also helps keep your scent strong!
If dust or bugs get inside your candle it compromises the burn and it most definitely is not safe!

  5. Don't burn your candle in Airconditioning or drafts.

Being selective about where you burn your candle is important. Candles desire still air environments and will perform its best if you keep it lit away from breezy places in your home. Places to consider are doors that open and close regularly and opened windows.

Constant wind movements can affect the the burn time and performance of your candle so finding an open space is important to making the most of your Lavian Fragrance candle.

We hope that these tips can help you improve the quality of your candlelight atmosphere, and of course all it takes is a little care and attention on your part. By taking the time to make sure that you have a candlelit space in your home, you can enjoy the benefits of candles just as they were intended—but with a longer life.
