What makes a candle a " Luxury Candle "

A luxury candle is more than what it appears to be on the surface. These candles aren't just about elegance and exclusivity (although those are definitely important qualities). Luxury candles are also about innovation, value, and the craftsmanship that goes into making a product that's built to last.

Whether you're venturing into the world of luxury candles for the first time or shopping for someone who appreciates the finer things in life, you might be wondering where to begin your search. We're here to help!

What makes a luxury candle?

Candles are great. They make our spaces look beautiful and smell wonderful, and they can even make us feel more relaxed. In this way, candles have come a long way since their first use over 5,000 years ago. Back then, candles were just a source of light and warmth; nowadays, they're more likely to be used for décor, ambience, and aromatherapy.

But not all candles are created equal—and if you're wondering what makes a true luxury candle? We've got some tips that will help you tell the difference.

1.The wax

When it comes to candles, the type of wax in your candle makes all the difference in how much time you can enjoy its beauty, as well as how much fragrance you can experience.

Most candles use paraffin wax. It’s an inexpensive by-product of petroleum that holds fragrance and colour well but tends to produce soot when it burns. It’s also not very eco-friendly, as paraffin doesn’t break down or biodegrade.

Luxury candles tend to use higher-end alternatives to paraffin, such as coconut wax, beeswax, and soy wax. Our candles are made with 100% coconut and soy wax, which burns more slowly than paraffin and allows you to savour the ambience and aroma up to 50% longer. Coconut wax is also a wonderful fragrance carrier that doesn’t require chemical amplifiers to give your candle a strong scent throw.

2.The Fragrance

You know when you've been walking all day and you just want to collapse into bed? But then your spouse or partner shows up and wants to do all this talking and cuddling? And there's nothing wrong with it, but sometimes you just want to be alone with your thoughts?

Well, that's what most cheap candles are like. They're so overpowering they leave us feeling like we've been stuck in a cramped room with an overbearing stranger.

Luxury candles, on the other hand, are more like a partner who understands that we need our space—and who is willing to give us exactly what we need, when we need it.

Cheaper candles are made of one or two basic scents that can contribute to headaches or migraines. Worse still, those same commonplace commercial candles will never change as they burn—they'll always be the same old scent that bores us and leaves us wanting to go back outside for some fresh air.

But luxury candles combine a symphony of scents that change as they burn. The top notes are the first scents you'll notice when you light your candle, while the middle notes emerge next. Finally, when your candle reaches the bottom of its wick, the base notes come out making us want more.

3.The Vessel

Luxury candles are more than just a great smelling treat—they're also works of art. The container is the "face" of a luxury candle, and it's designed to be as much a treat for our eyes as it is for our noses. This means that the material, colour, weight, and design all play a role in creating a holistic sensory experience that tells a multi-faceted story about the brand behind the candle.

At Lavian Fragrances, we took our time choosing the perfect vessel for our candles. We wanted to create an appearance and hand feel that pays tribute to the classic, elegant style of the modern society while still being something you would want to show off on your mantelpiece or coffee table.

4. The Packaging

Packaging also plays an important role in setting luxury candles apart, especially when presenting them as a meaningful and memorable gift for loved ones.

The packaging of a candle is the first indication of its value. Packaging that is presented with attention to detail can make all the difference between a cheap product and an expensive one. A beautifully packaged luxury candle gives off the impression that it was carefully crafted, with great attention paid to every detail, including the packaging.
